  • From young children

A chart they can match by pointing, for those who cannot read letters yet.

  • Short and gentle

Usually 15 to 30 minutes, at the child's pace, with a parent beside them.

  • Frames built for school

Flexible, light and durable, sized for small faces, with kids' sunglasses too.

  • Generations of families

Customers who first came as young adults now bring their children and grandchildren.

What parents notice

Signs a child may need an eye test

Six things parents notice
  • Sitting very close to the TV

Or holding a phone or book unusually near the face. The classic sign of short sight.

  • Squinting or frowning to see

Narrowing the eyes sharpens a blurry image for a moment. Watch for it at the board or the TV.

  • Rubbing the eyes often

Especially after reading or homework, and not only when tired.

  • Tilting or turning the head

Looking at things from an angle, or covering one eye, can mean the two eyes are not working together.

  • Headaches after school

Frontal headaches or tired eyes by evening, particularly on heavy reading days.

  • Losing the place when reading

Skipping lines, using a finger to track, or avoiding reading altogether.

None of these means spectacles for certain, but each is worth a check

Children rarely say they cannot see well, because blurry is all they have ever known. Schools often notice first: a child moving to the back and struggling with the board, or a sudden dip in reading. A short test settles it.

The test

What the test is like

  1. 01

    A chat first

We ask what you or the school have noticed, and about the family's eye history. Short sight and astigmatism often run in families.

  2. 02

    A quick machine reading

The autorefractor takes a painless measurement while your child looks at a picture inside it.

  3. 03

    A chart they can follow

Younger children point to match the direction of a shape; older ones read letters. We keep it playful and stop before anyone gets tired.

  4. 04

    Frames, only if needed

If spectacles are needed, we help choose a frame that fits properly now, not one to grow into.

Kids' eyewear

Frames for growing faces

A child's frame has a different job from an adult's. It has to fit a smaller nose bridge, survive being pulled off by one temple and sat on, and be light enough to forget. We stock flexible, durable kids' frames in sizes for small faces, and kids' sunglasses for the same reason: a child's eyes let more UV through than an adult's.

Frames are fitted and adjusted on the child's face. Bring the pair back whenever it goes crooked and we will straighten it.

Routine

How often children should be tested

Before starting school, then every one to two years, and yearly once a child wears spectacles, because power can change quickly during growth. A squint, a head tilt or covering one eye deserves a check straight away, and when something needs more than spectacles we will point you to a paediatric eye doctor.

Questions people ask us

Honest answers, in the same words we use across the counter. Anything else, ask us on WhatsApp.

  • At what age can a child have an eye test?

We test children who can follow a simple chart, matching the direction of a shape by pointing before they can read, and older children with letters. For babies and toddlers, or if you suspect a squint, a paediatric ophthalmologist is the right first step, and we will say so.

  • How long does a children's eye test take?

Usually 15 to 30 minutes. We stop before a child gets tired and can finish on another day if needed.

  • Does my child need to read for the test?

No. Younger children point to match the direction of a shape instead of reading letters.

  • Do you have spectacle frames for kids?

Yes: flexible, durable frames sized for small faces, plus kids' sunglasses. Every frame is fitted on the child's face, and we adjust it again as they grow.

  • Will spectacles make my child's eyes weaker?

No. Correctly prescribed spectacles let the eye see clearly and, in young children, help vision develop normally. Leaving a significant power uncorrected is what causes problems.

  • How do I book my child's eye test?

Walk in any day except Friday, between 9:30 am and 9:30 pm, or message us on WhatsApp and we will suggest a quiet time. Late morning and early afternoon suit younger children best. Bring any previous prescription or school eye-check slip.

  • How much does a child's eye test cost?

The same as an adult's: ₹150 for a computerised eye test, complimentary if you buy your child's spectacles from us, and never any obligation to buy.
