Repairs

Small repairs, fixed while you wait.

Loose temples, a missing screw, yellowed nose pads, a pair that keeps sliding: most of it is a few minutes at the counter, for spectacles and sunglasses bought anywhere, subject to the frame's condition and the parts available.

  • Bought anywhere

Not just pairs from us. If it can be fixed, we will try.

  • Usually while you wait

Most adjustments and nose pad changes take minutes.

  • An honest verdict

If a frame is too far gone, we say so rather than charge for a fix that will not hold.

  • Servicing and cleaning

A proper clean and a check-over, even years after the purchase.

Anatomy of a pair

What usually needs attention

One temple, seen from the side1234567
  1. 1
    Rim

Holds the lens. Full, half or none at all (rimless).

  2. 2
    Bridge

Rests across the nose and sets how the frame sits.

  3. 3
    Nose pads

Adjustable on metal frames. The first thing to replace when they yellow or slip.

  4. 4
    Hinge and screw

Where temples loosen first. A minute's tightening, at the counter.

  5. 5
    Temple

The arm. Bent to match your ear so the frame stops sliding.

  6. 6
    Temple tip

The soft end behind the ear; replaceable when it wears.

  7. 7
    Lens

Cut and edged in the shop to the exact shape of the rim.

Repairs and servicing

What we can do at the counter

  • Nose pad replacement

Yellowed, cracked or missing pads swapped for new ones. The most common fix, and the most transforming.

  • Loose or crooked frames

Temples tightened and alignment corrected, so a frame sits level again after being sat on or dropped.

  • Screws and hinges

Missing or stripped screws replaced; stiff or loose hinges eased, where the frame allows.

  • Temple tips

Worn or cracked ear pieces replaced for comfort.

  • Cleaning and servicing

A proper deep clean of the frame and nose area, and a general check-over.

Care

Making a pair last

Most repairs come from the same habits: taking spectacles off with one hand, which twists the hinge; leaving them lens-down on a table; and cleaning dry lenses with a shirt. A case, two hands and a microfibre cloth prevent most visits to the bench.

Bring the pair in every few months for a tightening and a clean, especially if it has started to slide.

  • Take them off with both hands
  • Never lens-down on a surface
  • Clean wet, dry with microfibre

Questions people ask us

Honest answers, in the same words we use across the counter. Anything else, ask us on WhatsApp.

  • Can you repair spectacles bought from another shop or online?

Yes, whenever possible. Repairs depend on the condition of the frame and whether suitable parts are available, and we tell you before starting.

  • How much does a spectacle repair cost?

It depends on the part. Adjustments, nose pads and screws are small jobs, and we tell you the cost before doing anything.

  • Can you replace nose pads?

Yes. Nose pad replacement is one of the most common jobs at the counter and usually takes a few minutes.

  • Can you fix a broken frame?

Sometimes. A loose hinge or a missing screw, yes. A snapped acetate frame or a broken bridge often cannot be repaired reliably, and we say so rather than sell you a fix that fails.

  • Can you put new lenses in my old frame?

Usually, if the frame is sound. Old or brittle frames can crack during fitting, and we warn you if yours is at risk.

  • Do you repair sunglasses too?

Yes: the same adjustments, nose pads, screws and temple tips, subject to the frame.
