Eye Testing
A computerised eye test you can trust.
Since 1996, families across Virar have had their eyes tested here. The test takes 15 to 30 minutes, costs ₹150, and is complimentary when you buy your spectacles from us. It ends with an honest explanation of what your eyes need, whether that is new spectacles or nothing at all.

₹150, free with spectacles
The computerised eye test is ₹150. Buy your spectacles from us and the test is complimentary. No hidden charges, and no obligation to buy.
15 to 30 minutes
Longer if you need it. Nobody is hurried through.
All ages
Children, adults, senior citizens and first-time spectacle wearers.
Walk-ins welcome
Walk in any time we are open. Evenings are busiest, so message us if you would rather not wait.
The test
What happens in a computerised eye test
Two parts: a machine reading, then careful checking by a person.
Autorefractor reading
You look at a picture inside the machine while it measures how your eye focuses light. A starting point, not the final number.
About 2 minutesRefined on a trial frame
Lenses are swapped in a trial frame while you read the chart. Your answers fine-tune the power, one step at a time.
10 to 20 minutesYour prescription, explained
You get the numbers, what they mean, and an honest view on whether you need new spectacles at all.
Same visitThe machine, an autorefractor, measures how your eye bends light and gives a starting estimate in a couple of minutes. It is quick and objective, but it is only a starting point.
The part that matters is the refinement. Lenses go into a trial frame on your face and you read the chart while we change them, one small step at a time, until the letters are sharp and comfortable. That is what turns a machine estimate into a prescription that works in real life.
If you already wear spectacles, bring them. We measure their power first, so we can tell you exactly what has changed.

Reading your prescription
You leave with a written prescription and a plain-language explanation of it.

Ami Optics · Virar East
| Eye | SPH | CYL | AXIS | ADD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Right (OD) | −1.25 | −0.50 | 180 | +1.50 |
| Left (OS) | −1.00 | −0.75 | 170 | +1.50 |
Sample values for illustration. Minus numbers grow as short sight increases; the axis is a direction, not a strength.
- SPHSphere
The main power. A minus number corrects short sight (distance blur); a plus number corrects long sight.
- CYLCylinder
The amount of astigmatism, when the eye focuses unevenly. Blank or 0.00 means none.
- AXISAxis
The direction of that astigmatism, from 1 to 180 degrees. Only there when there is a CYL.
- ADDAddition
Extra reading power on top of the distance power. Usually appears after forty.
The prescription is yours to keep and use anywhere. If we think your existing spectacles are still right, we will say so, and there is no charge beyond the test.
The fee, plainly
What the eye test costs
One fixed fee of ₹150, and it is waived when you buy your spectacles here.
All ages
Who the test is for
Children
Gentle, unhurried testing with a chart a child can match without reading, and honest advice on whether spectacles are needed yet.
Adults
Screen strain, night-driving glare, headaches by evening: a test finds the power behind the symptom.
Over forty
Reading power (presbyopia) starts around forty. We check distance and near together and explain the options.
Elderly or bedridden
For those who cannot travel, we can bring the test to the house. See our home eye checkup page.
Same visit, same roof
After the test
If you need spectacles, the frames and lenses are in the same shop, the lenses are cut and fitted here, and the eye test is complimentary with the pair. For many common prescriptions, with the lens in stock, a pair is ready in about 30 minutes.
If you would rather think about it, take the prescription home. Nobody will follow up with sales calls.
- Frames from budget-friendly to titanium and gold finish
- Single vision, progressive, bifocal, blue cut, photochromic and high index lenses
- Many prescriptions ready in about 30 minutes when the lens is in stock

Questions people ask us
Honest answers, in the same words we use across the counter. Anything else, ask us on WhatsApp.
How much does an eye test cost at Ami Optics?
A computerised eye test is ₹150. If you buy your spectacles from us, the test is complimentary. There is no obligation to buy, and your prescription is yours to keep.
Is the eye test free?
It is free with a spectacles purchase: buy your spectacles from us and there is no charge for the test. If you only want the test, or you take the prescription elsewhere, it is ₹150.
Do I need an appointment for an eye test?
Not necessarily. Walk-ins are welcome six days a week, subject to how busy we are; we are closed on Fridays. Evenings are the busiest time, so if you would rather not wait, message us on WhatsApp and we will suggest a quieter slot.
How long does a computerised eye test take?
Usually 15 to 30 minutes. A child, a first-time wearer or a complicated prescription can take a little longer, and that is fine.
Is a computerised eye test accurate?
The autorefractor gives an objective starting point in seconds. The accuracy comes from the refinement on a trial frame, where your own answers fine-tune the power. Together they are more reliable than either alone.
Where can I get an eye test in Virar?
At Ami Optics, near Sai Baba Mandir at Jivdani Chowk, Virar East, opposite Radha Krishna Restaurant. Customers come to us from Virar West, Nalasopara and Vasai as well, and walk-ins are welcome six days a week.
Can you test my child's eyes?
Yes. We test children, adults and senior citizens. For young children we use a chart they can match without reading, and keep it short and playful. Our kids eye test page explains what to expect.
Can I get an eye test on a Saturday or Sunday?
Yes. We are open Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 am to 9:30 pm, the same as weekdays. The one day we are closed is Friday.
Is an eye test here the same as seeing an eye specialist?
No. Our test measures your power and fits you with the right spectacles, which is what most people with gradual blur, reading trouble or screen strain need. Diagnosing and treating eye disease is an ophthalmologist's job, and if we see anything that needs one, we tell you on the spot. Our guide on eye specialist or optician explains which you need.
Should I bring my old spectacles?
Please do, along with any previous prescription. Measuring your current lenses tells us what has changed, which makes the new prescription better.
